Cog railway vehicle
A rack railway is a steep grade railway with a toothed rack rail, usually between the running rails. The gradients on the route make it unsuitable for a normal adhesion railway, so a rack and pinion system was installed.
The trains are fitted with one or more cog wheels or pinions that mesh with this rack rail. This allows the trains to operate on steep grades above 20%, suitable for tourist attractions, forest parks, large amusement parks and other places.
